Hollywood Hot Tubs - A review of the film made in 1984
Among all the sex comedies releases in the 1980’s this movie stands out as one of the most memorable ones.
The story revolves around a young man Shawn Wright (Paul Gunning) who after sabotaging the Hollywood sing has the choice of either going to jail or helping out at his uncles business which involves the repairing of tubs.
The Uncle Al (Stafford Morgan) doesn’t know what to do with his nephew and asks fellow employee Jeff Partridge (Michael Andrew) in charge of him to show him the ropes of plumbing. The movie progresses on a slow note showing how Al and his associates try to land as a client with the successful Hollywood Hot Tubs. While working at his new job Shawn takes interest in fellow colleague Leslie Maynard and although the motto at work is ‘plumbing and pleasure don’t mix’ he gets her to agree to a date. The movie now shifts focus to Jeff who is seen getting cozy with the Hollywood Hot Tubs owner Pam Landers who is unaware of his sabotaging activities; but become very annoyed when she comes to know about it and enlists the help of her brother who is a biker to right the wrong. The movie was good considering the different themes and shots that are shown. The nude scenes portrayed by actress Edy Williams are worth watching as it seem that she is most comfortable naked rather than with clothes on. The way she has acted is superb and there is no doubt that she loves sex and loves to be naked. The valley girl daughter of Pam Landers makes all eyes turn towards her as she makes an impression with her half cut shirt.
The movie showcases the scenes which arise when the young man Shawn goes to fix the tubs of many of the rich in tinsel town. As he moves from one tub to the next sexual situations change accordingly. This movie has everything to make it look good but sadly the various idea are not used properly thus giving the movie a below par ranking. The movie also has a number of characters like the Japanese tourists clicking photos, a foul mouthed granny, the drunk monkey, bimbos walking all over the place and a gang of bike riders that go on banging up all the innocent people in the film, which showcases all types of clichés.
The next few minutes of the movie show all the actors running around the hottub in Hollywood in a frenzied spate of playfulness. This movie as a whole is a winner as well as a loser. The acting in this movie is poor and the film has a performance that stands there as one of the worst ever captured on film. This movie packs a cast of Paul Gunning, Donna McDaniel, Michael Andrew, Strafford Morgan, Remy O’Neill, Katt Shea, and Edy Williams among the others who have tried to make the movie interesting and upheld its spirit as a sex comedy.
