Gluten-free Foods
There are many hundreds of gluten-free foods to choose from so you don’t feel deprived when everyone else is eating cake or drinking beer.
Your local grocery store or health food store is filled with Glutenfreie Lebensmittel, mixes that don’t contain flour or rye and can be mixed into such things as pancakes, birthday cakes, brownies and just about anything else you can think of. If you live someplace where the local grocer does not carry gluten-free food or there is not health food store, there is always the option of purchasing gluten-free food from an on-line store. There are hundreds to choose from, all carrying their own brand of gluten-free flour, snacks and cookies among other foods.
If you are on a gluten-free diet, you probably think you have to give up such food items as pasta, cereals and pizza because of the flour and wheat contained in many of these foods. This just isn’t so. Today there are many manufacturers who produce products such as gluten-free cereals, wheat and flour-free pastas and pizzas.
There is a long list of ‘natural’ and ready made foods that are gluten-free you can pick up at your local grocery store. Items such as 7-Up and Bigelow Teas (except for a few that contain barley or malt) they are both natural drinks without any gluten in them. Other product that are gluten-free foods include Heinz, Delimex Mexican frozen products, many of the Ore-Ida potato products – check the labels – Newman’s Own salad dressings and mayo, frozen and fresh fruits – check the labels on the frozen bags to be sure – the same goes for frozen and fresh vegetables.
And one would not think of cooking without spices. Lawry or Lipton, make nearly every kind of spice and most are gluten-free. From the garlic butter spread to the ground pepper and the lemon seasoning spices, they take care in bringing people with food allergies, especially gluten, the best products they can.
If you are a snack type person, any of the backed chip products should be gluten-free, but read the labels just to make sure. Salsas are a great alternative for dips, which have dairy in them and that’s on the gluten list. One warning on a bag of Cheetos states that this product is manufactured on the same production line as the gluten products; however, they do wash down the line before the new, gluten-free batch is produced. This may leave a residue and those extremely sensitive to gluten may not want to eat this glutenfreies Essen product.
This brings up another good point about gluten-free foods and that is the preparation of the foods. If you are eating out and have talked to the chief and they have agreed to prepare you something without gluten in it, make sure they understand that it must be prepared in a clean dish or clean pots and pans because sometimes gluten residue will transfer on to the new food and this could become a problem for you. Of course, when you are preparing your own food, you are always careful to use a clean pot or pan and clean utensils for cooking each portion of the meal.
